Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow: Why Beyonce Can't Live Without Her Lucky Weave

She's made millions by whipping her hair back and fourth more times than Will Smith's daughter. Now the world's watching to see what Beyonce's barnet will do next.

While her hubby Jay-Z was in the States watching Blue Ivy, it was left to Beyonce to come over and single-handedly rule Britannia with her killer set at the V Festival.

But rather than her clever vocals and booty-shaking dance moves, all eyes were on what hair she'd be wearing - after flying over with a suitcase full of extensions and stylists to work some magic.

Just one week after she did a Jessie J and shaved off her locks - the weave was back.

And it was all in the name of business.

A huge part of Bey's stage act is flicking her hair and rolling her head around for the 'dutty wine' dance in Baby Boy.

If you thought the magic was in her weave you were right.

I'm afraid the concert affect wouldn't have been the same with the cropped do. She'd need to start all over again with the choreography, with less focus on the hair.

As cutting edge as the crop looked, it would be better suited to a one-off fashion shoot or music vid.

Let's face it, she's no Rihanna who does a way less energetic dance set and can afford to wear a crop as she leads from the hips rather than the hair in her shows.

Instead for over 15 years Bey has been a mane-mover setting trends from her braids and cornrows in Destiny's Child, to her Tina Turner style wig in her Austin Powers movie - to her poker straight lace-front wig in the If I were A Boy video.

This chin length bob was fiercer than Sasha - as she really came out of her shell sending herself up in a comical super-southern drawl as she commanded the audience to say 'Hey Mrs. Carter.'
Looking every inch the superwoman in her black leather cape and leotard she said: "Thanks for coming out in the rain V Fest. Y'all doing alright? So many beautiful people here, say 'Heeey miss Carter.' "

She ramped up the raunch factor for one plus one where she writhed on a piano in her sparkly catsuit singing 'make love to me'. I really felt we should have left her alone for a minute. Phew!

She topped off an unforgettable set with a tribute to the late Whitney Houston, in fact, her bob hairdo was almost a throw back to Whitney's It's Not Right, But It's Ok video, which had the likes of Pixie Lott, Oliver Cheshire and The Saturday's swaying after one too many Mahiki Pineapple's at the Mahiki Coconut backstage bar.

While Bey was queen of the night, the festival boasted a whole lot of other fab acts.

Dressed head to toe in a stunning Dolce and Gabbana number, Paloma Faith, who has her hair done at Olivia Palermo's fave place Electric salon, London, chilled out after her set in the Virgin Media Louder Lounge catching jokes with rapper Wretch 32.

Wretch took time out of his cocktail sipping, with a personal waiter on hand to bring him new drinks, to gatecrash the Hip Hop karaoke at the Channel Carling tent for a secret set at the Virgin Media V Festival, Chelmsford - which had fans going crazy.

Meanwhile Niall Horan from One Direction got himself red carpet ready for his London film premiere, by getting himself a cheeky touch up by Jim Shaw hair salon backstage, which worked a treat as women were flocking to him.

Shock.

Hollywood and Luther star Idris Elba got back to his Ghanaian roots by proudly showing me his 'black star' tattoo as we caught up by his dressing room. His feud with Liam Gallagher (they fell out over his red bobble hat at the NME Awards) is 'water under the bridge.'

After a triumphant V Festival, expect to see a lot more eye candy at the GQ Men of The Year Awards on 3 September.

Spirits sponsor Remy Martin will be creating bespoke cocktails at the ceremony as well as hosting a bar at the after-show bash.

No wonder Remy, also sponsoring the Breakthrough Award, already has mixologists creating an array of cocktails to make sure it's a night to remember like the classic R&G (see below).

Get in the mood for GQ with this Remy &Ginger recipe (for adults only).

50ml Rémy Martin VSOP
Ginger ale - to top up
Lemon peel garnish

Clink glass, pinky finger out, and you're good to go.

Salute!
