This is starting to become a bit of an occurrence now. After our recent post on a stranger who slapped a child in a supermarket, we discovered this article on another strange who has spanked a child.
The incident took place in a Salvation Army store in Cincinnati when 43 year old Gloria Ballard took it upon herself to spank another woman's child. Ballard had reportedly told the mother she didn't know how to take care of her 2-year-old son, and then proceeded to take the child over her knee and smacked him three times.
Ballard did not know the woman, and has now been charged with assault, and is due in court soon for the charges.
Sadly this is not the first time Ballard has been involved with the law, and has previously been arrested for public intoxication and disorderly conduct. How do you feel about a stranger disciplining your child? While it can be irritating for some people to listen to a screaming child, surely there's a less aggressive way of dealing with the situation?
Personally I think it can be particularly difficult to calm down a child during the 'Terrible Twos' and a little understanding from others would help the situation. Should a screaming child be annoying you, you could otherwise just move to the other side of the store until they've finished.
Equally though, I think it's important that parents are aware of the effect their child's behaviour could be having on others around them.
What are your thoughts on the situation? Do you tell off other people's children?
