Shocking Video To Warn Pupils Of The Dangers Of Texting And Driving

A shocking video has been created for pupils warning of the dangers of texting while driving.

Gwent Police are hoping it will be shown in schools around Wales and hopefully across the UK.

The film stars young actors from Wales and shows a teenage girl causing a fatal crash after using a mobile phone to send a text message.

It's graphic - watch it here and you'll see what I mean. It will certainly make you think twice about using your phone when driving.

Texting while driving slows reaction time by 35 of drivers aged between 18 and 24 text while driving.

Of course, it might help if the penalties were more severe. Drivers currently face a £60 fine and three penalty points on their licence for using hand-held mobile phones.

Do you think this video will have an effect on young drivers' behaviour?

It will probably give me nightmares. But then, I always found the public service videos we were shown at school terrifying. They were mostly about electricity pylons and sub-stations, as I remember.

I've even got my very own warning videos running in my head every time I think I haven't secured my baby's car seat properly or think I've left the gas on.

Are young people these days as easily scared into good behaviour? I wonder...
