Celebrate Families With National Family Week

Celebrate Families With National Family Week

Did you know that families spend on average a mere 45 minutes a day together? I imagine that's thanks to parents' heavy workload and children's busy lives.

It's easy to get bogged down with all the work having a family involves – the stress, nagging and monotony not to mention the worry and expense.

But enough! Let's celebrate the wonder and miracle that is the family and let's start with National Family Week.

Although we should count our blessings and perhaps feel more celebratory every day, none of us is super human so instead let's take part in this special week from 31 May to 6 June.

The initiative, which has the involvement of more than 180 organisations and the backing of all the major political parties, will commemorate the diversity of today's family as well as championing quality time and encourage a more active and healthier approach to family life.

The fun kicks off on Bank Holiday Monday with a family picnic with over 1,000 organised throughout the country so there's hopefully one near you.

Cinemas will be hosting family films on Tuesday 1 June and story time sessions and activities have been organised at shopping centres and libraries later in the week.

There's also the chance for your family to get into the Guinness Book of Records -- that's something to tell the grandchildren – with an attempt at the largest three-legged race at multiple locations during the Family Week Sports Day on June 5.

To find out what's happening in your area check out the National Family Week website, which is planning to have a search option for local events.

So make a pledge to ensure this will be the year when spending quality, fun time with your nearest and dearest is top of your to-do list.
