Family Dog Attacks Seven-Month-Old Baby

Just a couple of days after yet another fox attack on a child, a border collie has attacked a baby of seven months, which led to him almost losing a leg.

Seven-month-old William Jandrell from Market Drayton, Shropshire, was sitting in the booster seat of a car when the family dog jumped through an open car window and attacked him. Bill, a border collie, nearly ripped off the baby's leg, but William was saved when his parents rushed out after hearing his screams. They managed to wrestle the dog off the baby and call for an ambulance.

William was airlifted to hospital, and surgeons managed to carry out emergency surgery which saved his leg.

The accident happened on Thursday, shortly after 4pm. William's father Chris has since made a statement recalling the incident and praising the surgeons.

The Daily Mail quoted him as saying "'It was nasty and horrible. He was covered in bites. The surgeons have done wonders on his leg, so fingers crossed he's going to be OK. It's really a miracle."

The infant's great-grandfather, Thomas Berry, claimed the dog was usually good, and was used to being around children. The family now believe the dog was jealous of the attention the baby was getting and had "a moment of madness"

The dog has since been put down, and police are looking at whether charges will be brought.
