It has been revealed that a primary school head teacher was paid £276,523 last year, that's £70,000 more than the head of Eton College.

Overseeing a 335-pupil inner-city primary, Mark Elms received £231,400, and an additional £45,123 for his pension.

It was also revealed that there are around 100 head teachers earning more than £150,000. Currently the Prime Minister receives £142,500. The average inner city primary head gets £55,000.

The revelation came after Education Secretary Michael Gove called for heads to be paid no more than the Prime Minister.
