Vera Wang A/W 2010: Backstage At New York Fashion Week

Grace Gold

MAKEUP: Lucia Pieroni for Cle de Peau Beaute

HAIR: Jimmy Paul for Bumble & Bumble

NAILS: Myrdith Leon-McCormack for Revlon

SNAPSHOT: French icons Catherine Deneuve and Bridget Bardot do film noir

THE SCOOP: In a collection that blends stark blacks and whites with a smattering of tweed grey and lots of chunky pearl jewelry, the beauty look at Vera Wang a/w 2010 was inspired by the dark sexy film noir scene.

Eyes stole the show with Catherine Deneuve-style smoked out creases, while lips stayed kissably nude with a hydrated finish. Hair paid homage to Brigitte Bardot with lots of volume at the crown and a casually tousled, unfinished look.

"Vera specifically told me she wanted a clean, natural nail," said Leon-McCormack. Nails were a matte nude, with just a hint of lavender-grey when light hit the surface at the right angle.

GET THE LOOK - MAKEUP: Cat eyes highlighted the face with black eyeliner smudged into the smoky silver grey shades from Eye Color Quad #205 (to launch in September). Lips stayed nude with an as-yet unnamed nude lipstick, while cheeks were warmed with Blush #5, a subtle bronze shimmer.

GET THE LOOK - HAIR: Paul treated hair with Thickening Hair Spray and applied Surf Spray to the ends for just-back-from-the-beach texture. The crown was then dramatically teased, and half the hair casually folded over itself and pinned for a weekend bedhead vibe.

GET THE LOOK - NAILS: On nails, Leon-McCormack painted one coat of Powder Puff followed by Grey Suede for a subtle nail with just a hint of colour. Top coat was skipped to maintain a matte finish.
