Father Accused Of Raping One Daughter And Locking Up Another

A father of seven has been accused of raping one of his daughters repeatedly and keeping another one locked away in a tiny room for more than a year, after his desperate wife reported him to the authorities.

Jeffrey York, 47, from Madison Township, Ohio, is said to have ruled his home with fear and stopped his wife and children from seeing any friends or family.

His wife Danita finally went to the police last December. She told them he had raped one of their daughters, and that she and their children, aged between three months and 19 years, had all been physically and mentally abused for years.

Investigators found that one of the girls had been locked in a room no bigger than a wardrobe for a year, and had only been allowed out to use the toilet.

And detectives said they found that one of the girls, aged under 13, had been repeatedly raped.

York has been charged with 19 offences ranging from rape to gross sexual conduct and child abuse. His arrest echoes that of Josef Fritzl, the Austrian father who kept his daughter Elizabeth locked up for years and repeatedly raped her.

The family have been taken to a shelter for abused women, where counsellors have helped unravel the details of the horrific living conditions allegedly imposed by York.

York has denied the charges but is being held in jail.
