A ten-year-old girl has given birth to a 6lb 6oz baby, making her one of the world's youngest mothers.
The child, who is Romanian but lives in Jerez de la Frontera in Spain, had a natural birth in hospital and both she and the baby are said to be healthy and doing well.
Hospital sources told reporters that the girl had arrived in Spain already pregnant, and that the baby's father was also a minor, adding: 'The girl's mother told us the girl lived with her boyfriend in her home country. There are girls who can appear older than they are, but in this case the girl is just that: a girl.'
The little girl's mum also told hospital staff she was happy about the birth, and said it was 'something common in my country.'
The social affairs minister for the Andalusia region, Micaela Navarro said the authorities only found out about the case from the hospital three days after the baby had been born.
She said: 'The important thing is that both mother and baby are cared for perfectly. If that is the case, they can remain in the family environment, which is what we are checking at the moment.'
