Chinese police say they suspect a mother who left her newborn baby on a street corner abandoned her because she was blonde.
The white-haired baby girl was found by a passerby on a street in Nanning, Guangxi Province.
'I was walking to work and heard cries from a wrapped-up quilt in the corner,' said the passer by. 'By opening it I found a baby crying very sadly.'
The baby was found along with an envelope containing around $600.
A message on the envelope read: 'My dear baby I am an irresponsible mother and an incapable mother.'
'I hope warm-hearted people can help to send the baby to the orphanage house - wish you all the best.'
The baby was wrapped in a quilt beside a bag of baby clothes.
Police believe the child was abandoned because she was blonde, but she may have also been abandoned because her family could not afford a fine for having her because of China's one-child policy.
Fines can reach up to $40,000 for having more than one child.
