Baby P's Mum Thanked For Her 'Honesty' By Social Worker

Video footage to be shown on tonight's Panorama TV programme will show a senior social worker thanking the mother of tragic Baby P for her 'honesty' over injuries he had sustained.

The interview took place just four months before little Peter died as a result of the injuries he sustained at the hands of his mother, her boyfriend Steven Barker, and Barker's brother, Jason Owen.

In the recording, to be broadcast for the first time tonight, social worker Sue Gilmore appears to accept Tracey Connelly's story that Peter 'banged his chin' when he 'caught himself on the table'.

Connelly goes on to say she wished social workers would 'back off and leave me alone'. Sue Gilmore responds by saying it was a 'straightforward thing to want'.

The interview took place in March 2007, whilst Baby Peter was on the at-risk register and Connelly was hiding the abuse being inflicted on him.

Baby Peter died aged 17 months.
