While it's kind of refreshing not to see a celebrity perfectly groomed - we may sort-of idolise them in a pathological way, but they are still mortals, after all, aren't they? - we have to confess we were a little upset at Gwyneth Paltrow's disappointing about face at last night's Baume & Mercier Gala Evening in Geneva.
The actress - who happens to also be the new brand ambassador for Baume & Mercier - had a bad hair (and makeup day). Her hairstyle was flat, her locks looked limp, her complexion was overly shiny and her smoky eye makeup look went amiss since it was more raccoon-ish than smouldering.
Considering that Gwyneth is usually the poster girl for fresh-faced beauty, this look is even more uncharacteristic. Maybe she was just tired, but is it ever really OK for celebrities to look less-than-stellar, especially at an event?
Maybe Flaubert was onto something when he said we shouldn't touch our idols, lest the gilt come off on our fingers.
