Jedward Launch Free Athletics Sessions For 8-15 Year Olds

Jedward have launched a campaign to get kids off their backsides and out enjoying athletics this summer, so if you're worried about your kids becoming total couch potatoes over the long break, read on...

Insurance giant Aviva is offering free athletics sessions to children across the UK, giving them the chance to try out a number of track sports, all free of charge.

The company already sponsors the Aviva Startrack Academy to make athletics more accessible to children, with the aim of giving all kids in the UK the opportunity to get involved in athletics by 2012, whether they just want to join in for fun, or to train seriously.

X Factor stars Jedward launched the campaign earlier this week along with Olympic Medallist Iwan Thomas and Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Athletics Group, Alan Keen MP.

The twins encouraged other youngsters to give athletics a go, branding the initiative 'awesome!'

They said: "We've always loved athletics; it's totally cool. We used to run and compete all the time back in Ireland and we think it's a great way to meet people and have a laugh. Aviva Startrack is awesome because it means anyone can give athletics a try - with trained coaches – to see if they like it. Our motto for this summer is: run, jump or throw....give athletics a go!"

Kids from 8-15 can sign up for athletics sessions with professional coaches by going to www.uka.org.uk/academy
