PRESS ASSOCIATION -- The Beatles have backed a campaign to encourage people to appreciate the value of music and discourage illegal downloads.

They have allowed their music to be used as the soundtrack for a new animated film for the Music Matters campaign aimed at showing the importance to everyday lives.

The Fab Four follow acts such as Elbow and Kate Bush who have featured in previous films.

The Beatles have been notoriously protective of their music for many years and not allowing it to be used for ads. They only allowed it to be available to download last year.

Quick Poll

How do you get your music?

iTunes

Free internet downloads

CDs from shops

From friends

Tracks such as Hey Jude, Something and Strawberry Fields Forever are featured in the film which illustrates how the band's music has accompanied milestones in the lives of many people. It aims to hammer home how listening to music is a shared experience and brings people together.

The video will be on the website for the campaign - backed by artists, major labels and other parts of the music industry - at www.whymusicmatters.org.

The Beatles? Don't you mean Ringo, who doesn't give a F n is just enjoying life, and Paul. The Paul McCartney who sold the Beatles song rights for money. That Paul wants me not to bootleg his music. HA!

John Lennon rolled around in his grave when Paul sold their songs to be used by corporations in their ads.

I have very little sympathy for multimillionaires who profited from a dying business. Sorry, music has changed and performance matters again. You can't quit giving live concerts at the height of your career and lean on record company profits (only a few could ever do this anyway).
Love the Beatles, Love Paul, but boohoo.

I'm in complete agreement with this clip, and I've also been a Beatle fan for as long as I can remember (~1971-72),,,,But shouldn't they have had the narrator meet this kindred person before he marries someone? It just seems he pulled a 'John Lennon' by marrying someone in their early 20s, then finding the person he relates with later in life!

well it seems more realistic "life" in the clip - i.e. not all idyllic, or as John said "life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans!"

I love The Beatles, and Paul may be my favorite, but really: what is that thing on his head?
