Ecstasy Chemical Could Help Cure Cancer, Scientists Say

It’s not just for clubbers. A new study has shown the drug ecstasy could be used to cure cancer.

Scientists at the University of Birmingham found a modified version of MDMA, the active chemical in the illegal dance drug, could treat blood cancers as it attacks cancerous cells.

Professor John Gordon, from the University of Birmingham’s School of Immunology and Infection, said it was an “exciting step” in treating blood cancers like Leukaemia.

"While we would not wish to give people false hope, the results of this research hold the potential for improvement in treatments in years to come".

The study was published in Investigational New Drugs.
