Glasgow Gets US Makeover For Brad Pitt's 'World War Z'

PRESS ASSOCIATION -- Brad Pitt has been on location in Glasgow filming the movie World War Z.

Parts of the city centre have been transformed into Philadelphia for the two-week zombie film shoot.

American street signs and traffic lights have been put up on streets in the Merchant City area, where filming is concentrated.

Vending machines selling American newspapers have been dotted around the area and the streets are lined with yellow taxis, Philadelphia police cars and other vehicles, including tanks.

One building on George Square has a large sign proclaiming it is a "United States Court House" with the Stars and Stripes flying above the door.

Fans have been out in force hoping for a glimpse of Brad, and have been gathering at barriers placed at the entrance to the set.

He and his family arrived in Glasgow by train on Tuesday along with other cast and crew.

The film is based on Max Brooks' 2006 novel World War Z: An Oral History Of The Zombie War, which is set in Philadelphia in the aftermath of a war between humans and zombies. It is due to be released next year.

Glasgow City Council said the production will involve almost 1,200 people when on location and the impact on the local economy is likely to be in excess of £2 million.

I fully understand your anger, believe me, if I was a Philly resident and I felt some temp jobs were going to a city halfway across the world instead of at home I`d be angry too
I think your anger at Glasgow and her people is wrong though, your anger should be directed at big US corporations, who, aided and abetted by US political parties (both Dem and Rep) have allowed millions....MILLIONS of jobs to be exported to China and India while unemployment soars at home......
most of them don`t even pay ANY taxes to contribute to the country that made their vast fortunes
That is where your anger should be focused

Probably because it's incredibly expensive to shoot movies in the states.

MOTHER GLASGOW

In the second city of the empire,mother Glasgow watches aw her weans
trying hard to feed her little starlings, unconsciously she clips their little wings
mother Glasgow`s succour is perpetual, nestling the billy and the tim
I dreamt I took a dander wae st Mungo, to try to catch a fish that couldnae swim

Among the flightless birds and sightless starlings, father Glasgow knows his starlings well
but he won`t make his own way up to heaven, by waltzing all his charges into hell
mother Glasgow`s succour is perpetual, nestling the billy and the tim
I dreamt I took a dander wae st Mungo, to try to catch a fish that couldnae swim

and the tree and the bird and the bell and the fish....

'let Glasgow flourish"

I've been wi' a couple o' cronies,
One or two pals o' my ain;
We went in a hotel, and we did very well,
And then we came out once again;
Then we went into anither,
And that is the reason I'm fu';
We had six deoch-an-doruses, then sang a chorus,
Just listen, I'll sing it to you:

I belong tae Glasgow,
Dear old Glasgow toon;
But what's the matter wi' Glasgow,
For it's goin' roun' and roun'!
I'm only a common old working chap,
As anyone here can see,
But when I get a couple o' drinks on a Saturday,
Glasgow belongs tae me!

There's nothing in keeping your money,
And saving a shilling or two;
If you've nothing to spend, then you've nothing to lend,
Why that's all the better for you!
There no harm in taking a drappie,
It ends all your trouble and strife;
It gives ye the feeling that when you get home,
You don't give a hang for the wife!

Weegies of the world unite! You've nothing tae lose but them Embra b*****s! :o)
