Gwyneth Paltrow And Samantha Cameron - A Photoshop Too Far?

It’s been a busy morning for one member of The Daily Mail’s web team, matchmaking Samantha Cameron and Gwyneth Paltrow as new BFFs.

In this picture, SamCam and Gwynnie look thick as thieves at Vogue’s Fashion Night Out in London on Thursday.

But check out the feet - the reality is that the PM’s wife has been cut out and photoshoped in.

Unfortunately for the newspaper, the less than convincing hack job was spotted and tweeted by The Guardian’s Jonathan Haynes, whose own Twitter feed often reads like a one-man campaign against Mail Editor Paul Dacre and his ever-expanding fiefdom.

The picture was quickly dropped from the Mail website and replaced by front and rear shots of the Hollywood actress sans her new best mate.

All this amidst a phone hacking scandal. I just don't understand how one of the biggest and widely read newspapers in the U.K can possibly be photo-shopping pictures to edit in and out of photo's those who they feel fit. This is a deliberate attempt to falsify photographic evidence of a scene, and one does wonder, how widespread is this? This sort of power being intentionally misused in a democratic society is really shocking. And to say no action has been taken against the Daily Mail is ridiculous. My Daily Mail reading days are over. Forget the DM. I'm certainly not going to waste my time reading that newspaper. They can't even publish a photo without trying to inject what they want in to the photo.

The really sad thing is that someone thought it was so important to have Cameron and Paltrow together that they mocked the shot up. That's just pathetic.

OK, does HP even know what they are showing here? Why is HP showing their feet? Do they think just because Gwyneth has one foot in front of the other that they can not be in the same picture? Or does HP think that the 'slight' kink in the floor proves the photoshop job? This photo was caught because the Daily Mail used the photoshop photo AND the Gwyneth solo photo on the same page - not because their feet somehow proved it. The actual photoshopped picture of Cameron and Paltrow was better than the reporting in this 'article'.

No, it's the angle. The pictures were taken from different angles. Gwyneth was shot from a higher angle, Samantha Cameron was shot from a lower angle, and yet magically, they appear side-by-side. Samantha Cameron looks like a cardboard cutout. Not a great photoshop job.

The Daily Mail, all the worst characteristics of the English rolled onto one little bundle. Every time I encounter a reader of this rag holding his/her little organ, I know their opinion will count for nothing. I've yet to be proved wrong.

Ah silly Daily Mail, you do make me chuckle.

The heads are indoors while the feet are outside!! Is this where fiction and non-fiction start to merge in the tabloid press? It started with a photo.... Even if these two high profile women were at the same party, why must they be depicted together when they didn't in fact pose together for the shot? And by the way, who really cares? Was it really worth that photo editor's time to create such an image? News reporting including photos used to tell the story should at least be accurate, surely.

With the DM fiction and non-fiction have been merging for years in the pursuit of their own agenda. One of their columnists has a catchphrase "you couldn't make it up". The problem is he, and his colleagues, too often do - or at least are "economical with the truth" to spin the story to suit their mean-minded outlook. And don't get me started on Liz Jones and her supposed "rock star" boyfriend....
