Up to 3 million public sector workers, including nurses, teachers and careworkers, are expected to take part in industrial action, with at least 14 unions committed to strikes over government pension reforms.

Sir

Perhaps it is worth reminding the Unions that the 1926 General Strike (which failed) was followed by the Great Depression which lasted from 12929 to about 1935.

All I ask is that the union leaders explain to me and the rest of the country how the current system will continue to be funded.
Unlike commercial pensions, there is no state pension 'pot', it is funded out of current income (i.e. taxes). As people live longer so the outgoings increase, but with fewer people joining the workforce income is decreasing, the math is pretty simple.
Therefore other things have to be cut to pay for the difference. Even if Trident was abandoned (one of the big ra-ra suggestions), that would only pay for a few years. This is a 100 year deal.
The only solution is ever higher taxes on those in work.
