(VIDEO) Social TV Is Here: New Player Brings Sharing To Your Favourite Show

Picture this. You're watching your favourite TV programme at home, you have to rush out the door, so you pick up the same programme on your phone. Once you get to your destination, you pick it up again on a tablet. Yes, there is now an app for that.

Aisling McCabe, Director of Platform Development at RTÉ Digital shared this latest TV player app at the Dublin Web Summit today.

"The feature I really love is that you can continue watching a programme no matter what device you are on. It's a great new feature and we're really excited about that," she said. "Audiences are choosing how they watch RTÉ and they are now in control."

The iPod and iPad apps include high quality video streaming and integrated social sharing for "watercooler moments." Each are downloadable from the Apple app store.

Prefer radio to TV? The company last week launched a beta version of their online radio player on Apple, Android and Windows. In that app, you can listen to eleven radio stations, then listen back to tracks you particularly liked or download podcasts.

If you have invested in a smart TV, RTÉ will soon work on those too, right in time for next year's London Olympics.

Stay tuned for more from the Dublin Web Summit on October 28.
