Halloween Behind Bars: Costumed Criminals Make It A Busy Night For Sherlock Bones

As everyone knows, Halloween is a time when ghouls, ghosts and goblins come out into the world for a fun night's frolicking amongst the living.

Unfortunately for the non-supernatural public, a few of the visitors to our lands seem to take their excitement a little too far.

Take Northampton, where a drunken Oompa Loompa was arrested on Monday night after shouting racial abuse at some teenagers.

The Loompa in question, Robert Nottage, said he had been drinking with friends - including one dressed as a Golly Wog - before the incident. He was sentenced to 200 hours of unpaid community service.

In Glasgow a superhero was arrested after sitting on a bridge above the M8 motorway , closing two lanes of traffic as a result.

The man finally came down from the bridge - walked, not flew - shortly before 9am after motorists had endured hours of delays.

In America it was the turn of the zombies to let the underworld down.

In Pasco, Florida, one of the shambling undead was arrested after assaulting a security guard at a nudist resort following accusations of inappropriately touching another guest.

There was no word on whether the zombie himself was undressed, but he appeared in full make-up in his mug shot.

So did the Grim Reaper, aka the zombie's brother-in-law, who was also arrested after biting a guard during the same incident.

"If someone is accused of the crime, that's what the description is going to be. What they were wearing, what they were dressed up in, or the type of make-up that they had on," said a spokesperson for the sheriff's office.

The Smoking Gun gathered a collection of the best mug shots from this year’s Halloween - most of whom are dressed as zombies.

But it turns out it is not just ghoulish Halloween characters who run in to trouble with the law.

In Cleveland, USA, local news reported that Goldilocks had been arrested for drink driving after she was pulled over for a traffic offence.

She found out too late that that 'just right' amount of alcohol to drink before getting in a car is… none.

Elsewhere, two costumed criminals found inspiration in similar places for a pair of unrelated bank robberies.

In Georgia, a man dressed as a woman wearing a shoulder-length black wig, sunglasses and a skirt robbed a bank, and is still sought by police.

In Tuscaloosa, a woman was not so fortunate, and was indicted by a federal grand jury after a string of robberies during which she was dressed as… you guessed it - a man.
