US teacher Cindy Clifton has been accused of plying 11 of her students with alcohol and then having sex with them in her home, many of whom are thought to have been her daughter's friends.
The 41-year-old could face up to 60 years in jail if the accusations are proved true, as her youngest "victim" was just 14 years old. The most serious charges of rape are punishable by six years in prison.
Clifton's lawyer told the court in Covington, Tennessee, US, she was a "devoted wife, hard-working teacher and faithful member of her church".
The reading teacher is facing 14 counts of rape by an authority figure, 11 counts of aggravated statutory rape, 14 counts of furnishing alcohol to minors and 14 counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
Prosecutors believe Clifton has been charged with more offences against under-age children than any other teacher in America in the last decade, a newspaper reported.
The trial continues.
