RUH Fire: Patient Suffers Burns After Explosion In Bath Hospital

Patient Suffers Burns After Explosion At Bath Hospital

A patient at Bath's Royal United Hospital (RUH) is being treated for burns after an explosion in an intensive care ward.

The incident occurred when an oxygen cylinder exploded, leading to what the hospital described as a "small fire".

One patient was transferred to a burns unit in Bristol, while the remaining 11 patients were moved to other hospitals or other wards in the RUH. Several staff were treated for smoke inhalation.

A spokesman for the hospital said: "Our staff acted incredibly quickly and professionally to ensure all patients were safely evacuated despite the risks to themselves.

"We are working to try and open the ICU today. We have also offered treatment and support to the relatives who were in the ICU at the time of the fire."
