Microsoft Windows Eight To Launch In February 2012

It's been accessible to developers for months, but now the everyday Windows user is set to get the brand new Microsoft Windows 8.

A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed via email that the public release will occur in the new year.

The shiny new operating system for Windows PCs will be available in February 2012, and will feature the new metro layout.

Microsoft also announced the new Microsoft Windows store today, the distribution point for Metro style apps.

For the average Windows user that means an easy way to get your hands on apps. For the cluey amongst us, Microsoft says the new store is the largest developer opportunity, ever, with 80% of profits going to the developer.

The previous Windows update, Windows 7, generated plenty of love, and equal amounts of hate from people who don't fancy change.

Expect similar uproar when the latest release arrives in February.
