The old cliches appear to be the best when buying Christmas gifts, with more than a quarter of men actually hoping to receive socks this Christmas, a survey has found.
TK Maxx found that 27% of men want to receive socks, while 26% would like to receive a present that will help them stock up on their underwear supplies.
Meanwhile, nearly a quarter of women (23%) have kitchen essentials such as pots and pans on their Christmas wish list and 22% want socks or tights.
Researchers suggested that the practical gift requests were a response to the turbulent year for the economy, leading people to expect to receive more basic presents.
The retailer said 1,055 UK adults took part in the study.

What boring x'mas presents. What target age groups are these people. I'd say, 38-55. If I got pots and pans for christmas, I wouldn't know what to do with them. Seriously?

This is totally true, 100% valid. I could get either a pair of socks, or underwear, or a shirt n tie every year for every Holiday and be totally pleased. Of course, it wouldn't hurt if they were from Banana Republic, Burberry, Brooks Bros or Diesel. None the less, I agree.
