'Terrible Crime' After Body Found In House

Police have launched a murder inquiry after a man's body was discovered.

Officers found Graeme Melville, 25, dead when they were called to an address in Smylum Road in Lanark at 4am on Thursday.

Strathclyde Police said inquiries are at an early stage.

They appealed for information from anyone who may have seen Mr Melville in the hours leading up to his death.

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Raphael said: "This is a terrible crime. The loss of this young man's life has left his family and his friends absolutely devastated. It is imperative that we track down and bring to justice whoever is responsible.

"My inquiry is obviously at a very early stage. We have been examining the scene and conducting inquiries across the area.

"However, I am specifically appealing for anyone who may have seen Graeme Melville on Wednesday evening or in the early hours of Thursday morning to come forward and speak to us.

I am particularly interested in talking to anyone who may have been in or around the Smylum Road area of Lanark in the early hours of Thursday morning."

Mr Melville was from the Smylum Park area of Lanark, South Lanarkshire.
