Cat Discovers Baby's Snooze Button After Stroking Him To Sleep (Video)

Cat Calms Crying Baby

Huffington Post   Alastair Plumb First Posted: 20/12/11 10:52 Updated: 26/12/11 21:49

God bless Canadian YouTube user aarongrant1. God bless YouTube user aarongrant1 and his baby. Oh, and his baby-calming cat.

As you might have guessed, aarongrant1's actual name is Aaron Grant, but as you probably might not have guessed, his baby's name is Connor and his cat's name is Stewie. So there you go.

We introduce you to Aaron, Connor and Stewie after a video Aaron uploaded to YouTube back in September called "Cat soothing crying baby to sleep" has gone viral recently.

Showing Stewie affectionately pawing at Connor's head, it's proof that cat-kind and kid-kind can work together in loving harmony - and, if you need to calm a crying infant, call on Stewie, because he's got the magic touch.

Looking up to the camera with a "And that's how it's done" face, Stewie reminds us of that other magical black cat, Salem Saberhagen, from '90s kids' sitcom, Sabrina The Teenage Witch. What do you mean, you don't remember Salem? Shame on you. Top cat, that cat.

Aww! Teh cute! Clearly, Stewie realized that the baby was looking for contact, so he kept his warm furry paw on baby's head. Baby Connor will grow up with a real *thing* for green-eyed, black-haired temptresses with a decidedly feline outtake on life. Also, toona breff.

Take a chill pill, helicopter parents. We're talking about cats here--you know, those animals that people have kept as pets for 4000 YEARS.

As a first time mother, I allowed my cat to check out my sleeping baby up close and it was a huge mistake. At first, he was just sniffing around her head, seeming to be just a bit curious. And then, the second she jerked in her sleep, his paw shot up so fast I had no chance to stop it. He left a tiny scratch just below her right eye, and to this day the scar is still there, 33 years later. Thank goodness the scar is hardly noticeable unless she points it out to someone, but I'm constantly beating myself up over the incident. His claws came within a 1/2 inch of her eye.

Parents, whatever you see a cat do to a mouse or a toy, you could see it do to your baby. Use caution! And with dogs, use even more caution! I'm not saying to get rid of your pets, but just stop to think of the risk you're taking when you allow them into your baby's space.

Not sure I'd let my cats paw a babies eyes and head...they have claws don't ya know ;)

Utterly irresponsible! By all means love your cat and your baby, but keep them apart.
09:37 on 21/12/2011
sorry, but although it looks at times quite sweet, if the cats claws had caught the babies eyes, it could have been a very different story, Not some thing i would encourage, a have 2 dogs and have owned cats, but as much as i love them dearly, animals have to have there place, and i would not have allowed that display by the cat to have continued .

I have two nice cats and love them dearly, but I don't think this cat is being benevolent, look closely - all the time those claws are being sheathed and unsheathed - my cats do the same thing when they are sitting on my lap, sometimes it's quite painful, I am sure the baby could feel little tiny pinpricks on his head. At one point I thought the cat was about to attack and try to pull the baby's head towards him to do a bit of biting and kicking. I know the baby appeared to go to sleep but he may have been really sleepy anyway, babies will sleep through almost anything.

OMG - how cute!!!!!

Maybe that's what you think but I see it that the cat woke the baby up in the first place. Cats paw their pooh all day long, why would the mom want the cat pawing at the baby's head? How long do they sit there w the video camera testing whether the cat is doing good or bad for the baby. Parents need to dial it back on cat-sitter and take over as parents.

ha ha ha...at first i thought, the cat is just curious and wants to touch the baby, but the cat left his paw on the kids head. as a parent, i would never let a cat do that to my kid because the cat could have easily harmed the child..you can't trust cats, they are skittish creatures with attitudes. but apparently the cat knows how to PET humans.

Although I would never have let any of my cats do that, I totally disagree with you about their nature. Everyone is different and to say you can't trust them is ridiculous as well as uninformed. Any animal can be skittish it all depends on the way they have been brought up. You have obviously never owned or been in regular contact with cats.

Liked the very end of your comment.

Oh so many naive people on here...what a beautiful memory this wee dude will have. Cats don't attack as daft folk say and for that point...neither do dogs. As a mum of triplet boys who have managed to survive the love of all their dogs & cats...get a grip!!!!

I agree with Neilly. Many people prefer to think the worst e.g. the cat (Stewie) will attack the baby. I think this is a lovely image and it is clear from the cat's nature, that there is no need for unecessary anxiety. I would have no problem with this and most responsible owners would of course monitor the situation closely.

Awww, good kitty.

My cat on the other hand whacked me on the head once to wake me up, then led me straight to a food dish that was apparently not full enough for her liking.
