Lie Detector Test Trial

Lie Detector Test Trial

First Posted: 31/12/11 09:55 GMT Updated: 31/12/11 10:01 GMT   PA

Police are carrying out a new study on the usefulness of lie detector tests.

The Association of Chief Police Officers (Acpo) said the research was being led by Hertfordshire Constabulary.

The force is reported to have completed a successful pilot scheme in November in which 25 "low level" sex offenders were tested.

Many were exposed as being a higher risk to children than originally thought, The Times reported, and a further 12-month trial has been approved to begin in April.

An Acpo spokesman said on Saturday: "We monitor any new approaches or technology which could provide a positive benefit in helping investigate crime, support victims and put offenders before the courts.

"The Acpo Homicide Working Group provides advice to the police service on the use of polygraph techniques and will follow with interest the latest study led by Hertfordshire Constabulary.

"Polygraph techniques are complex and are by no means a single solution to solving crimes, potentially offering in certain circumstances an additional tool to structured interrogation.

"These initial trials are in their very early stages and we will follow their progress, working with chief officers across the country to provide further guidance if necessary.

"Whether these techniques are adopted elsewhere in the country is a matter for individual Chief Constables."

If results aren't admissable in court, what is the point of wasting time, money and effort in exploring such machines? Like so many daft ideas, quangos, royal/political jollies - money is poured out of the bottomless taxpayer's pockets; so many good, useful things could be achieved in the UK if only somehow, control could be provided OTHER than paid crony monitors. I'm sure there are many brilliant minds, within all levels of our great class system, who are now retired, who would just love the opportunity to sit on a government/local council quango to represent [as I once heard on a news radio programme], the 'great unwashed and uneducated' Jo Public! It will never happen of course, because honesty is not viable at any government level. Whilst Jo Public is willing to ignore going to the polls on election days, such dishonesty and misrepresentation will continue.

And that's why hypocrites like Nancy Grace bash people as guilty if they refuse to take one. I wouldn't take a detector if they accused me of being Bush's illegitimate son. Of course it's no accurate, so why even bother? Why do the media have to mention whether they "did or refused" to take one as some admission of guilt?

I told my daughter the other day I buried her dead gerbil (it's sad and she wasn't here when it happened) but I threw it in the trash. I GUARANTEE I could beat a lie detector when asked that questions. Butt clenched people, when asked irrelevant questions, clench your butt. You'll pass every time

HOW ABOUT THUMB SCREWS AND THE RACK? I UNDERSTAND THAT THE RESULTS COULD BE MORE REWARDING AND MAYBE TRUTHFUL

Cultural myth, some (like Texas! )but by no means all American courts allow it. Most more sophisticated circuits do not. This is like the German myth, Graphology.

Hear, hear couldn`t agree more, good idea to try it out on a few cops in Gwent farce and also several politicians in the previous corrupt British Government!

sue gx.... this government is just if not more corrupt IMHO
10:38 PM on 01/01/2012
Cheers 4 reply, by the way, this government didn`t use bullyboy tactics just because I complained about serious faults and flaws to an ex labour mp,in several dodgy organisations, and have 100% proof to clearly state the previous governments pathetic cover ups! Have bombarded the Sun etc etc over the past few years since Sep 07 with names dates etc etc, I write from experience and actual events!

Sounds a neat idea. if they lie do all the wires attached withstand the 33,000 volts given to the person?

It is a pity that a lie detector was not around when New Labour were in power. If it was we might not be in the great mess we are in now.
It would be a great assett to have one with Cameron, Clegg and Osbourne and that goes for every politician. No MP's can be trusted to tell us the truth and it is because of that, that I cannot see lie detectors ever being allowed in this country.

What about the lies the tories told in `79 to `97 ?
Britain by all economic tables is in nowhere near as bad shape as the detested coalition made out....instead of going for growth and jobs they want tax cuts and austerity
Don`t cloud the issue with tory lies
09:50 PM on 12/31/2011
I am not clouding the issue and I would not believe Tory lies, anymore than I would believe Labour lies. None of the political parties can be trusted in what they say. I only wish that they could. Best wishes to you.

Try them out on Cameron, Osbourne and Co, ask if they are stitching up the workers because it is good for the Country, loud buzzing sounds and ringing bells you hear...

It appears the current fiscal package is on behalf of the Business sponsors of the Conservative party and to enhance the wealth of those that have already accrued millions...notice I said accrued, not earned...it is the workers that make the money, the workers never get a just reward for their endeavours, one rule for the rich and keeping the working classes working was always and still is the Conservative way..

Not one of those in the Government has a line of hardship to follow, irrespective of party, they are all their for gain, there have been so few real politicians who wanted to make a difference.
It is time for a new Political Party, the Honesty Party, a Party for the people, all the people, you get out what you put in, and if we keep it Honest, we can very easily turn round this mess those money grabbing lizards got us into.

I vote Honesty in Politics, Vote Honesty Party...start the revolution.

They always say here in the US that 'they are only a tool" or "they are just an indicator" and cannot be admissable in court.....but the amount of investigations that have been sidetracked or sent chasing the wrong suspect is scary
No, I hope the British police don`t introduce them

This will not be able to be used as evidence in court, and is only to ascertain if further questioning may be necessary.
