The father of Anuj Bidve, the Indian student who was gunned down in Salford on Boxing Day, has paid tribute to his murdered son after flying to Britain.
Speaking outside the House of Parliament on Thursday, Subhash Bidve spoke of his "softly spoken" son who was "very friendly to everyone".
"I feel myself as a father this should not happen again, because a lot of Indian students come here for their studies," he said.
Anuj, 23, was shot in the head as he walked through the Ordsall district with friends at around 1.30am on December 26. He died a short time later in hospital.
His parents were welcomed to Parliament by Keith Vaz, the chairman of the Home Affairs Select Committee. He met the family after being contacted by them last week about their concerns over the police investigation into the murder.
Vaz, the Labour MP for Leicester East, said the family had shown "great dignity" following the terrible circumstances of their son's death and said that they never thought they would come to the UK in circumstances of this kind.
"I welcome the fact that Greater Manchester Police has arrested and charged a suspect within seven days of the event and that individual will face a full trial," he said.
"We must reassure foreign students we are doing everything we can to ensure their safety in the UK. Following the criminal proceedings it will be extremely helpful if there is a full report into the circumstances of his death."
Subhash Bidve also called on Facebook to re-open his son's profile page so friends could leave tributes.
