Babies Banned From Olympics Unless They Have A Ticket

Baby Olympics

Babies will be banned from this year's Olympic Games unless they have their own ticket - even if they were not conceived when their parents bought seats.

The 2012 organisers have said every child, including small babies carried in their parents' arms, must have their own ticket or they will be excluded from the Games.

The issue has attracted fury on the Mumsnet website in the last few weeks, with parents saying they are being forced to pay full price for babies not yet born.

Some are doubting whether extra tickets will be available for the popular events they are attending.

One woman described it as the "biggest rip-off in the history of London" while others wondered what to do with babies they will be breastfeeding.

Another said: "The whole thing is ridiculous, there are people who bought tickets before their babies were even conceived - how are they supposed to know to buy a ticket for a child that doesn't exist yet?
"There should be more complaining about this policy. It's nuts."

A press spokesman admitted the Olympics helpline had received calls from pregnant women and expectant fathers whose babies will just be a few weeks old when the Games commence.

They have been told they can try and buy an extra ticket for their chosen event, otherwise the infant will be prevented from entering the venue.

It is a really daft rule - after all what extra space does a breastfeeding child take up? On the other hand I do think its odd that parents are expecting to bring babies that are only weeks old to watch a sporting event. I mean its crowded, loud, theres nothing there to entertain the child, theres going to be security guards everywhere and its potential terrorist threat (ok the last one is pretty unlikely but still....) just don't know what about an olympic event parents think is suitable for a small child? It would be a waste of ticket if they DO buy them - the baby isn't going to remember the event or enjoy it. If breastfeeding why not just pump some milk and get a babysitter like you would for any other event?

The only moms that are complaining are the ones who bring their children to inappropriate locations like
1) movie theater
2) fine dining restaurant
3) golf tournaments
4) Music recitals
5) et al.

If the baby isn't taking a seat then it shouldn't have to be paid for.

well, mr coe has to maximise his profit's for himself and his croonies.

Well what'a so unusual about that? Get a baby sitter - I do not want to be distracted by someone's squawling infant and I'm sure the athletes wouldn't either

The whole games is rediculous and a total waste of money, but this is just a scam to recoup some of the money thats been overspent on the fiasco. Another way of getting more money out of us.

from day one the organisers the goverment have become the biggest ticket touts in history, the same applies to wimbledon tennis the all england club, thr rfu, the f a along with wembley, the o2
who all massage the market in tickets in the guise of debenture seats, and hospitality areas. They operate there own cartel and get away with it, Even the theatres now have there premium seats usually at £ 95 a seat when the seat next to them is available at £ 60/65. They have become the worlds greatest ticket touts. You can throw FIFA in that lot to

What r u on about? Government does not set the prices for sporting events - each has it's own organising body and systems. i.e Wimbledon is a ballot - u want tickets write to them and you'll be entered into it, rugby - go online and buy tickets, same for Wembley. Save up for the tickets like the rest of us do. you can get discounted theatre tickets virtually daily - I haven't paid a full privce in the last year and frequently have 60 pounds plus tickets for around 25 pounds.

would you like to run a few checks, on the hospitality prices for the olympics ? the way seats are tied into hotel deals ? the amount of seats that were actually available to the members of the public in the ballot ? this also includes wimbledon with there denbenture system, were there debenture seats are available at over £ 60k for a five year period, they offer a system where they sell and buy the tickets back from debenture inflaite the price again to sell on. Same as the RFU same as the F A and wembley with there box holders and debenture there price for the champions league final for a 10 seater box was over £ 80k a good seat £ 300 out of the ballot, As for theatre i agree with you sadly the discount tickets are only available on shows that struggle to sell, try les mis phantom mamma mia one man two guvenors, and if you pop into any theatre you will not be able to buy a discount ticket, maybe a few student card tickets are available but not for the big shows, and yes they will offer you a premium price seat, for the sold out shows. And the goverment did set the price for the olympics they had the final say.And i don"t have to save up, i was pointing it out for those who do.

Welcome the rip off UK Olympics. Just think if a parent has a ticket to a main event. Some of these can reportedly can cost around £3000.00 per ticket. So now if you have a small child you could have to pay up to £3000.00 for your child, unless there is child rates. What a disgrace. Along with Lloyds TSB throwing taxpayers money at sponsorship.

I'm attending along with my partner and two nephews - a premier event although not the final - total cost 5 pounds. Don't believe all you read in teh press and on aol.

I may be a victim of propaganda but have you a babe in arms?

I will watch some of the Olympics on the telly with a few sandwiches and a pint of ale. What is the betting it will be on pay per view only. The outer boroughs had to pay more rates for the event and I will be surprised if we can see it on the telly for free.

Hell yes, you won't get to watch it for free, Sebs seen to that.
11:40 PM on 01/24/2012
It;s a designated sporting event and as such has to be available on terrestrial - so no you wont be paying to view it. But I bet you stump up for football?

Terrestrial won't exist in London after April! Do you mean Freeview?
12:26 AM on 01/25/2012
Only if England is in the finals, otherwise no chance. You have lost your bet although the odds were on your side.

Why anyone would want to pay stupid money, to sit in a plastic seat for a couple of hours to watch a heat of the Ladies bean bag race, is beyond me. Is it just to say "I was there?" I shall book my soft couch with brew and hot dog available, in front of a widescreen HD TV. If anyone asks? Yes, I was there for the 100m final but I didn't see you there.
10:08 PM on 01/24/2012
the ladies in the bean bag race will be wearing the skimpiest attire the organisers can get away with though, just like the beach volley ball
12:40 PM on 01/25/2012
And I'll get to see it in HD close-up. Yay!

'Madam, I notice that you are pregnant, do you have a ticket for the unborn in your womb? I am so sorry Madam, nonticket holders are not allowed in.'
