If there's one thing that Twitter loves more than a celebrity dying, it's a national event that it can rally around and make terrible jokes about.

Such as today.

Yes, it's Shrove Tuesday (the day before Sheffield Wednesday) - so just in case you give a toss, here are some Pancake Day jokes. Enjoy. And don't forget the real reason we're celebrating it.

(Note: all 'crap/crêpe' jokes have been excluded except for one, because it used the correct circumflex accent.)

Unlike the modern day, rich foods in a traditional household would have consisted of sugar, fat, flour and eggs. Now I can't imagine in the 15th century (first records of pancake day and pancake tossing) they cared about intolerances or that a need for gluten and dairy free existed but, fast forward a few hundred years, or a wee bit more, and there is most definitely a need.
