Rebekah Brooks Loaned A Horse By Metropolitan Police

The Metropolitan Police loaned former News International boss Rebekah Brooks a horse in 2008, while she was editor of The Sun.

According to a statement from the Met, police often find horses a "suitable retirement home" when they reach the end of their life.

"Whilst responsibility for feeding the animal and paying vet bills passes to the person entrusted to its care at its new home, the horse remains the property of the Metropolitan Police Service. Retired police horses are not sold on and can be returned to the care of the MPS at any time.”

"In 2008 a retired MPS horse was loaned to Rebekah Brooks."

Police said the horse was re-housed with an officer in 2010.

The revelation in the Evening Standard caused hilarity on twitter with one journalist asking how to get a horse on loan from the police, as it would help with her commute.

Helen Lewis
Would love to know if the Met police have ever "loaned" anyone else a retired police horse? Would help enormously with my commute.

Apparently Rebekah Brooks tried to say no to the Met's kind offer but couldn't find the words. She was a little hoarse.

It comes a day after a memo indicating Brooks was briefed by police on the original phone hacking investigation emerged at the Leveson inquiry into the media.

At Leveson on Monday, the officer at the head of the corruption investigation, Sue Akers, said The Sun newspaper had a "culture" of illegal payments to officials in all areas of public life.

And giving evidence on Tuesday, Liberal Democrat deputy leader Simon Hughes suggested phone hacking cost him the leadership of the party.

Brooks married former racehorse trainer Charlie Brooks in 2009. In July, she resigned as chief executive of News International following the News of the World phone hacking scandal.

I dread to imagine what that poor horse went through, you can imagine with the ex racehorse trainer, we have all seen what happens to race horses, and what the Jockey Club had to implement, although I think they may have had a rethink on that! Seems the horse is now with someone responsible, if that horse went back in poor condition RB should be investigated and prosecuted by the RSPCA for cruelty to animals. Maybe a call to RSPCA HQ in Sussex could be an idea, she should be held to account and investigated, especially if she has other horses. The police authorities should have a list of health problems when the horse was returned.. If there are other horses :-(( Huffy, it calls for a spot of investigative journalism here!

Happens all the time doesn't it? She gives them a "pony" or two they lend her a horse. In all of this many posters seem to forget the part the recipients of these bribes played in this debacle. News international is rightly pilloried for its illegal and unethical activities but to my mind the bigger culprits are those people who, often holding high or responsible office with very good public service salaries, sold the trust and integrity of their position for the proverbial pieces of silver. For every person seeking to corrupt or manipulate there are 100 people waiting to be corrupted or manipulated. One might expect the police and others of that ilk to abide by their sworn oaths of upholding the law impartially and not stooping to such depths. Murdoch has much to answer for but only because he was aided and abetted by the very people we blindly trusted to protect us. I fear we can no longer trust anyone who has even the remotest hold on any reins of power, has access to taxpayers money, has public information that is commercially desirable or is in a position of public trust. And we have the nerve to pass comment on the endemic corruption in many third world countries!

Seems that the Met gives priority to those living in the South East when lending out retired horses, seems they need a geography lesson or the Cotswolds are now officialy in the South East. That makes Leicester North London.
