Divine Intervention: Shockblast's 'God Is Back'

God Shockblast

What if God was one of us? Joan Osborne first posed the question in 1995 with her single One Of Us and has been asking intermittently on the radio ever since.

At her prompting, we’ve all pondered what would happen if God was one of us, just a slob like one of us, or indeed a stranger on the bus trying to make His way home.

Now, a new art project called God Is Back is taking the question a step further.

Produced by Shockblast with the helping hand of Photoshop, the images take God from Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam in the Sistine Chapel and places Him in a series of everyday situations among us mere mortals.

Scroll through the images to see Him at a concert, hailing a taxi and taking a bath (because even deities can start to smell a bit).

Thought-provoking art, a bit of harmless fun or just plain offensive? What do you think?

I wonder what would be said if we made such offensive comments about any other religion? Faith is just that "faith". Do we really need proof to believe that the only way that people can live together is to follow the ten commandments? Christians are tolerant but there is a limit. No other faith would tolerate such questions without a massive uproar.

If you assume that there is a God and that he made everything from him or her self then God is within all of us. If you dont believe but are an avid science fan you will also know that the elements which make the universe are within all of us so once again we come to the same answer. Any being capable of creating a whole universe including multi universes, endless dimensions, multi existences and matter without end would possess a power we simply could never comprehend let alone understand. The same result would occur if we think in purely scientific terms. It is humans who create a god like figure that looks human or like an animal who make a god physically insignificant. Pagan societies who worshipped water, earth, sun, spirits and all kinds of elements were probably nearer to the truth and that counts whether you believe in religion or science or both.

PART 1.

I like and agree with your comment, which is very similar to my way of thinking.
l actually write poetry and lyrics, and have had 5 published in various anthologies, so l`m enclosing it, together with part of something that l wrote.

There is no Division.

There is no division
between science and religion
Either there is an external God,
who created everything,
Or an internal force
of pure consciousness,
intelligence, energy and organisation.

This internal force
resides within every atom,
Regulating and organising
with accuracy and intelligence,
And is the outward manifestation
Of a divine force or God.

Almost every time l read an article on any aspect of science, including the formation of the universe l also read that most scientists deny the existence of a God
Although l believe that religions cause all the suffering and wars in this world, because people are not intelligent or mature enough to agree to differ on matters of belief, l certainly acknowledge, not believe, that for the universe and everything contained in it to have evolved and to exist in its present form, that there must be an intelligent, organising force at work and l am sure that all scientists would agree with that.

You seem rather mixed up to me -a lot of ambiguities in your train of thought.

PART 2:

lt seems to me as a non scientific but intelligent human being that either this force is A, outside of everything, controlling, organising, regulating ect, with accuracy and intelligence, an external "God" if you like, or B, is within every particle of every piece of matter as its intrinsic, organising principle ie. the essence of everything, self regulating.
One could make a comparison with a computer. l don`t think anyone who knows how it works would say that there was no designer or someone who input information. lf, hypothetically, that was proved not to be the case, then people would look at the possibility that the computer was self-organising and intelligent.
lt may not be that good a comparison but l think that you get the "gist" ( idea) of it --- it can only be one or the other --- it has to be.
l also think that a lot of confusion/misconception surrounds the perception of the word "God". ls " he" really an old man with a white beard and mysterious ways, controlling our destiny? Or do more people see "him" as a force , or form, of energy, intelligence and organisation which is intrinsic in and the essence of, everything?

God did become one of us. His name is the most hated name in the world used as a swearword. He lived a humble life, he cared for other people more than himself, showed us there is a better way but we rejected him and nailed him to a cross and died. But he resurrected on the third day and ascended to heaven where he now intercedes on our behalf with the Father.

His name is Jesus of Nazareth, the Christ and he is coming back soon.

Exactly like one of us
- No power whatsoever on the world or other beings
- living only in the eyes and dreams of others
- very temporary existence
- no meaning

Yep,the article's title is right :)

(PS: everyone who has half a ounce of critical mind already knew it :) )

It doesn't really matter what we think, does it? If there is a God, then he'll no doubt make his feelings known in due course. Or not.

But is student-level Photoshop humour really art?
