Britain's Worst Photographer Crowned, But Can You Beat The 'Glowing Baby'? (PICTURES)

A photography website has awarded a father the prestigious title of Britain’s worst photographer – for this appallingly bad shot of his baby daughter.

Red Cloud Days bestowed the honour upon Stuart McGhee after receiving entries from across the country including headless brides, serious red-eye and blurry close-ups.

Stuart said: “I am extremely surprised to have won. Family and friends already see me as bad photographer; this award makes it official!

“The picture of our daughter Jasmine is known in the family as the ‘demon child’ photograph and is brought out for a laugh every now and again.

“My wife bought me the latest photography equipment just before Jasmine was born, but I had no clue how to use it. Our daughter is now two-and-a-half, and as you can see, I still need to improve.”

As well as retaining his title for a year, Stuart was also awarded a free photographic training day with the contest organisers.

A runner-up prize went to ‘Alien Resurrection’ – a blurry shot of figures apparently wading across a twilight landscape.

Founder Lee Bown told Huffington Post UK: "As soon as I opened the Glowing Baby I burst out laughing. I thought, 'This guy needs help'."

He added: “We are confident that we can turn Stuart into a skilled snapper so that his pictures are fond memories rather than family jokes. Stuart is not alone in his situation.

"All too often we get people who have spent thousands of pounds on the latest photographic equipment who have no idea how to use it correctly.

"Expensive cameras don’t just take good images by themselves; the perfect picture requires time, training and practice as well.”

Not really a comment on the worst photographer we need another word for the digital mob they don't deserve the mantle of the likes of Avedon,Don McCullin,Cartier Bresson etc. We "Real" photographers made sure the picture was well exposed and some of us spent hours in the darkroom until we were happy with the result now it's all done with click of the mouse and the help of some wizards working for Adobe..... heigh ho ain't progress grand.

Some of those shots above in the slideshow are actually quite beautiful, would grace many an indie CD cover.

The digital invasion put paid to real photographers as everyone and their granny with the latest point and shoot multimillion pixel creation from the big four has new photographers coming out of the woodwork in droves. I trained as a photographer in both film and digital but gave it up as a bad job as gear costs went through the roof while fees dropped like the proverbial lead balloon, it just wasn't worthwhile competing for business with the £100 a wedding mob, I am about to begin a new venture in a niche market as a creator of both the image and my own ideas but social photography is now in the hands of these forum professionals and imo they can have it.

I quite agree. I have been a Professinal Photographer since leaving the forces 30 yrs ago. Of course im now retired, but still do the odd job. however, as you say, its a complete waste of time now as everyone wants some thing for nothing. I relate to your remark "The £100,00 a wedding mob.
