Simon Cowell Considering Scrapping 'The X Factor'

Simon Cowell is considering axing The X Factor if viewers continue to abandon the show.

The music mogul quit the British version of the show to take the concept Stateside, leaving the panel in the hands of Take That star Gary Barlow, who was joined by fellow panellists Kelly Rowland, Tulisa Contostavlos and Louis Walsh.

However, the new line-up failed to achieve the huge rating figures Simon was used to and he admits he is already working on a replacement project.

Speaking at the launch of the new series of Britain's Got Talent, he said: “[I would rather the show] fall off the cliff on numbers than deteriorate slowly. That is like death from a thousand cuts. Now maybe that might mean with The X Factor we’d say in a year’s time: ‘Right, that’s the end of it. Let’s start something new.'

“We have got something in development which could replace it if we get to that point.

"Most things in music, fashion or TV tend to be across a 10-year period. The great test of success is if you can transcend a decade.

"I believe we can do it again if we’re prepared to be brave."

It might stagger along for one more season but its demise would be of a very humiliating nature for Simon and would terminate his standing in showbusiness. Any medium to long term prospects the X Factor might have had, came to an end with Cheryl Cole's treatment of Gamu. The shows's audience figures reduced abruptly at that point and has been in decline ever since and have now passed the point where recovery is possible. Simon should close down the show now and save what face he can for some other project.

YOU let JEDWOOD lose on the public. You deserve to be flogged and made to share a small room with them for eternity

A new show is aired to much media attention, and then the show is not made available except in very limited formats. And they're "surprised" it's not doing well? Duh.

Spot on, all reality shows are cheap rubbish. I feel these shows like Ice Road Cop with Camereras and any of those are just a lazy way of filling TV slots.

I confess to watching the X Faxtor - most of it I find a bit cheesy, but occasionally (perhaps rarely) they do have some talented singers. What I don't like about the X Factor is that it adds to the super rich celebrities being even more greedy and their lives are so divorced from the reality of the lives of the general public. The celebrities might argue that they work hard for their money - but I don't think they work any harder than the general public do. I see no justification for paying them millions of pounds when others have to live on a pittance. Their 'talent' is over-rated and over-paid.

Revamp the programme making the contestants the important people on the show not the judges and get rid of the flashy sets, concentrate on the singing
