Nurse Cuts Off Baby Girl's Finger By Accident

PA

A mum is suing a hospital after a nurse accidentally snipped off her three-month-old baby's finger whilst removing an IV tube.

Veronica Olguin says that the nurse at the Heart of Florida Regional Medical Center in Polk County cut off the tip of her daughter's finger last October.

Baby Salena had been in hospital receiving treatment for a fever. Her mum said she was left screaming and 'scared' when she realised what the nurse had done:

"I was so scared and I just started screaming, 'Her finger, her finger,'" she said.

Salena was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital where doctors tried to reattach her finger, but could not do so.

Her mum is now suing the nurse and the hospital for negligence.

"All I wanted is for her to have her finger," Veronica said, "That is completely impossible and she cannot have it back."

The hospital said the incident was an "unfortunate accident" and that they deeply regret it.

Ms Olguin is seeking at last $15,000 in damages.

The nurse is still working at the hospital.

What an awful thing to happen! Do you think she is right to sue?
