Former Coronation Street star Katherine Kelly is to play Kenny Everett's wife Lee Middleton in a new drama.

The 32-year-old actress - who starred as Becky McDonald in Corrie until earlier this year - has been cast in BBC4 biopic The Best Possible Taste about the late great comedian.

Comedy writer Oliver Lansley will star opposite Katherine as Kenny.

The drama - due to air later this year - will celebrate the life of the comedian by using his most famous comic characters, including Sid Snot and Cupid Stunt, to help chart Kenny's rise to fame.

Katherine, who quit the cobbles of Weatherfield after five years on the ITV1 soap, has since triumphed with a starring role in She Stoops To Conquer at the National Theatre.

She has also been cast in new ITV1 series Mr Selfridge, co-starring Entourage actor Jeremy Piven.
