FC Porto have been fined £16,700 after their fans were found guilty of racially abusing Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli.

The incident relates to the round-of-32 Europa League tie on 16 February, which City won 2-1.

City complained to Uefa after they claimed the home supporters had made monkey noises at the Dragao Stadium.

Balotelli informed officials of various incidents during the Citizens' win before his second half substitution. City’s media officers even told BBC Radio 5 Live - airing live commentary of the match - at half time they had suspected Yaya Touré and Balotelli had both been victims of racist abuse.

When withdrawn in the 78th minute for eventual matchwinner Sergio Agüero, Balotelli was subjected to a cacophony of noise, and informed club officials that he had heard monkey noises.

Uefa also confirmed they will take no action against City after their supporters aired the superhero-themed chant "You're not incredible" at Porto striker Hulk.

That is disgraceful. A drop in the ocean of their finances.

it is up to the club to control its fans. We do it in this country and that sort of nonsense is not tolerated.

Porto should have been banned from any European competition for the next season at least. In addition, they should demonstrate what action they propose to take in order to prevent this happening again.

Uefa's action still shows that they tolerate racism and are behind the times. Thank goodness that the FA, despite the criticism, have done a lot to get away from this old fashioned taunting.
