Alex Hope, Trader With £200k Bar Bill, 'Arrested For Unauthorised Trading'

City Boy Made Famous By £200k Bar Bill 'Arrested'

A city boy made famous after spending £203,948 on the bar at a Birmingham night club has reportedly been arrested for "unauthorised" trading.

Alex Hope, 23, describes himself as "one to watch" despite his "tender years" and a "talented, charismatic and thoroughly likeable man" on his personal website, which has now been taken down.

The trader, who spent £125,000 on just one bottle of champagne had been pictured partying with Katie Price and on his bank-balance busting night out was drinking with footballer's wife Coleen Rooney.

His publicist would neither confirm or deny he had been arrested, saying: "I have no comment to make."

The FSA said in a statement: "With the assistance of the City of London Police, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) executed a search warrant at one address in East London in connection with an investigation into a suspected unauthorised foreign exchange trading scheme.

"A 23-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of committing offences under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 and the Fraud Act 2006.

"No one has been charged at this stage in connection with the FSA’s investigation, which is ongoing. No further details can be confirmed at this time. The arrest is not linked to any other FSA investigations."
