Human Rights 'Abuse' Preventing Abu Qatada Deportation Will Be Clamped Down On, Says Theresa May

Theresa May will order a crackdown on the "abuse" of human rights laws that is stopping foreign criminals being deported, it was reported on Sunday.

The Home Secretary will put in place tougher immigration rules by the summer, according to The Sunday Telegraph.

She has pledged to stop all but the most "exceptional cases" succeeding on appeal after becoming convinced that tougher controls were needed to prevent criminals using the "right to a family life" - under Article 8 of the European Convention on Human Rights - to stay in Britain.

"It's been causing a lot of concern, not just to the government but also to an awful lot of members of the public," she told the newspaper.

"By the summer we will have in place new immigration rules which I believe will end that abuse."

The most high-profile case involves the firebrand Jordanian muslim cleric Abu Qatada, who is currently on strict bail conditions following his release earlier this year.

But those bail conditions expire in less than two months, and Labour claim that the system of TPIMs - which the government has introduced to replace control orders - could lead to Qatada being free to walk the streets of London during the Olympics.

The government is currently in negotiations with Jordan to secure Qatada's deportation, but Labour believe these attempts will come too late to prevent Qatada's terms of release being relaxed.

Mrs May will direct judges rather than introducing fresh legislation but concedes the move may be challenged, it was reported.

She said: "If it doesn't, if it's tested in the courts and we find there's a problem, we'll obviously look at other measures but I'm confident in what we're proposing to do."

Mrs May has come in for criticism over the last week following moves to legislate for real-time surveillance of all email, text, website and phone call traffic.

Civil liberties groups condemned the move as a "snoopers charter" and Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg indicated he would curb the plans.

Mrs May said: "I would hope that we will be able to do this in a Bill. I would expect us to be able to so this in a Bill in the next session. but in a way that enables people to have a sight of the clauses."

She's had 2 years to do something about this and she's presided over a complete debacle. I wish somebody would give her a one way ticket to oblivion.

If she is serious about getting rid of crooks does it mean she will round up all the MP`s and ship them off ?

interesting, Home office on human rights clam down for crooks, another shot at 'terrorist' by Govt official. I'm all for getting 'terrorist' deported if the tax I pay, gets swallowed up by them.

However, don't try to have such a lame cover story after you've been hacked. Really, Tell us what has happened with to attack on the Govt site, what has been accessed and what hasn't. Alot of information resides with the home office.

The idea of it's website being hacked is scary. Firstly, if you didn't know, the website, normally has all content based on a server or servers. These are then connected to other machine which maybe accessible on a nation wide or perhaps more regional level, because of the net once again and simplicity of work etc etc.

So That mean If someone did hack a site, how much access was retrieved and why is Thersa all of a sudden so dedicated to spinning a new story?

I do hope that anonymous after all does not represent another evil as does the idea of govt.

People shouldn't be silly enough to vote but they do anyway, given other people power to speak and have a say for them.

I bet you Pm doesn't even know half of you by name, yet he represents you? Ridiculous!

This is total rubbish, the European Court of Human Rights will reverse anything the government does on deporting undesirables.

It's been so nice to see Mrs. Theresa May as a paragon of law and order and the flag-bearer of the real justice. The encounter with this great article and with its protagonist gives me a nice day worthy of living on this earth.

The Unites States is a great country and should remain one. Of course, America might not have been able to maintain its state as it should have as at the time of the Founding Fathers. The succeeding waves of the persecuted people from Europe or other places made it impossible to maintain its identity as the country of the Anglo Saxons or something.

The United States of America should not have to be contaminated as this one any more, It should remain a "beautiful country full of the Edisons, Lincolns, Hemingways and Googles. The United States should not be the gathering place of zombies coming from all over the world..

In brief, America is not and should not have to be a haven for criminals. In the case of South Korea, an assortment of criminals ranging from thieves and swindlers to "the human rights abusers", that is, the leftist-leaning radicals have made it a rule to go across to the continent, snuggling into the generous and protective arms of America.

My point is: The Immigration Law or something should be strengthened and the illegal residents should be clamped down and deported. I totally support the patriotism of Home Secretary Theresa May.

If they increase the price of something it is passed and effective in the morning. If they have to tell you how much tax they pay it will be done before the next election. If they want to stop us having something it's made law yesterday. If they want to get round us they tell us they are starting a process to make something work . But it never happens . it's a blatant lie to get you on their side for 5 minutes
