This is the moment a New York commuter broke up a fight between a man and a woman on the train - by eating.

The video shows a woman launching herself at a man opposite her and lashing out at him, until a fellow passenger stands between the two and absent-mindedly reaches for his snack.

As the person who uploaded the video to YouTube wrote:

Heading uptown on the 6 train, this woman sits down next to me. Then all of a sudden she jumps up and starts wailing this guy in the face. In complete disbelief I fumble for my phone and capture this..

YouTube commentators were full of praise for "snackman" saying he "handled the situation."

The amazing episode was uploaded just one week ago and has been viewed by nearly 200,000 people.

Reddit commentators also posted their admiration for "snackman" saying: "I have not seen someone care so less. He did not even attempt to put effort into stopping them, yet he is incredibly successful just standing there looking unassuming."

Food is a wonderful thing. If a snack can break up a fight, think of how much of an impact an aisle full of food can do. We could bring world peace through endless mars bars (or whatever people like)!

I'm more concerned about the sweet guy in the light blue jumper taking all the verbal abuse from "bloody loco" (as he calls himself) in the next video. Is he okay??

It's more than a little worrying that despite the poster of this video stating that the woman started the fight and the video itself clearly showing that the woman was the aggressor, the majority of people here are still praising 'snackman' not for breaking up the fight but for 'protecting' the woman.

Contrary to popular belief, women are not always the victims in situations like this.

Perhaps you would have preferred it if he hadn't got between the protagonists and just left the woman to be beaten?

BTW, the woman in this clip looks like she started the fight. Isn't that taking victim culture a bit far?
