Jailed For Wearing Baggy Jeans: US Man LaMarcus Ramsey Imprisoned For 3 Days

Huffington Post UK  |  By Posted: 11/04/2012 16:30 Updated: 12/04/2012 16:00

A US man has been sentenced to three days in prison after turning up to court wearing low-slung baggy jeans.

It has long been acknowledged that trousers which only reach the mid-thigh are guilty of a range of style crimes, however Alabama Judge John Bush ruled that the 20-year-old's jeans were so low that they were actually in contempt of court.

The angry judge ordered LaMarcus D Ramsey to spend three days in jail on account of his outerwear, after he arrived in court to enter a plea on a charge of receiving stolen property.

Ruling that he was in contempt of court for showing his bottom in the courtroom, The Montgomery Advertiser said that Bush told Ramsey: "When you get out you can buy pants that fit, or at least get a belt to hold up your pants so your underwear doesn’t show.”

Saggy baggy jeans are but one style offence that Huffington Post UK believes should be accompanied by a suitable sentence. Take a look through some of the other sartorial sins committed by the male sex.

He was wearin jail broke pants, must've wanted to go to jail.

I would bet that this guy has been to jail before. Showing up in court to stand before the judge dressed like that; he obviously has no respect for the law. Seriously.

Pants down boys are loosers with no jobs living off our hard earned money in tax dollar welfare. I am so glad they are starting to test those loosers for drug use. if test is possitive then they loose benifits. How can you get a job when on drugs? ofcourse they are not looking for work when the Government gives money for free....the biggest mistake the Gov ever made. This hand out is only to be used for people with major handycaps!!!

About time someone stood up for what is right, all you people know damn well you should not be out in public with pants down. a public flashing ticket could be issued to each one and public indecentcey is still a law, plus W.H.O. and CDC can back up incidents of bus riders and others that use any public seating even seats at your doctors office where you pick up fecal bacteria on your clothes from someone who sat there before you with pants down! I saw a pants down on a bus seat one day that had stinky butt and left a brown skid mark on the seat. DO YOU THINK ITS CUTE NOW!!!

See he knew he was going to jail, so he simply dressed the part..SMDH..

I now see that that ridiculous fashion isn't limited to the minority community or any particular age group of men for the older men are just as guilty of such a foolish fashion..

but old men wear thier belts up by thier breast.... lol

Sending someone to jail for this offence is ridiculous, and I am the first person to say that walking around with your underwear on display is a ridiculous fashion.
Why didn’t the judge ask the defendant to pull his trousers up and explain that is was unacceptable to be dressed in this way in court?
In my opinion the judge needs to update his own training. If the man involved has never been to prison before this could ruin any future work prospects for him, and for what?
Send someone for committing a proper crime, not a fashion crime.

First of all, I don't think this saggy bottom guy is interested in a job, next, if he didn't have the wherewithall and decency to not wear his pants to court, he deserves to be locked up. Why should the judge have to tell him to pull up his drawers? Serioulsy. When are we going to stop defending this kind of behavior!? No one may like it, but it's put out a statement loud and clear. Hopefully.

It wasn`t the jeans, it was the blue flannlette undercrackers he was jailed for. NO PAROLE.

Contempt of court would seem to be justified in this case - such a court and judge does not deserve respect!
07:19 on 15/04/2012
Oh I so respect that judge. It's his court and he demanded decency and respect.

In my world you don't demand respect, you earn it and the judge in this circumstance does not earn it when he jails a man for something wholly unrelated to the charge and which merely offends his dress sense.

The court, and the judge, LOSE respect when behaving like this.

Jail is where the style originated, and is a good place for it to end up.

LOL not yet, but seriously I could turn into one, stood in the queue at the bank the other day, with a young guy with his trousers half mast and his not particularly nice undies on, I was sure they were gonna drop down completely, haha
