Police Find Missing Girl's Body In Woods

A body found in woods on Friday is that of a missing teenage girl, police have confirmed.

Moyra Liz As-Chainey, 16, was last seen at 8.30am on Wednesday at her home in the village of Edderton, Easter Ross, in the Highlands.

Around 50 people took part in a large-scale hunt for the girl whose disappearance was said to be out of character.

An RAF search and rescue helicopter, mountain rescue teams, coastguards, police and four dogs were involved.

The search was stood down when a body was found in woods near Edderton at around 4pm yesterday.

Police formally identified the body today as Ms As-Chainey and said no suspicious circumstances surround her death.

Moyra, originally from The Netherlands, was a fifth-year pupil at Tain Royal Academy.

A report on her death will be sent to the procurator fiscal.
