M1
The accident killed two people in a van

Two people have been killed in a motorway collision on the M1, police have said.

The accident occurred shortly after 5am on the southband carriageway in Buckinghamshire between junctions 14 and 13.

A white Ford Transit van was involved in a collision with a white Iveco lorry.

Thames Valley Police said two unnamed occupants of the van died at the scene.

The main southbound carriageway is closed as officers investigate the cause of the collision.

"The hard shoulder is being used to try to ease congestion but there are lengthy tailbacks and motorists are advised to avoid the area," a spokesman said.

Another major vehicle accident and another one involving a lorry.

I got chastised on here a few weeks ago when I criticised lorry drivers for being responsible for a large amount of accidents on major A roads and motorways but here we are again.

Lorry drivers are a menace on our roads and need to have lane restrictions and driving hour and time restrictions placed upon them now.

I cant see where it says in the article the lorry driver is at fault? do you know what proportion of accidents on the roads involve lorries? considerably lower than car vs car thats for sure. Over 3000 people die in British roads each year 95% are killed by car drivers.
Lorries are already subjected to lane restrictions. Driver hours and time restrictions also apply, as they have done for over 50 years.

Lane restrictions! Do you mean the restrictions regarding using the outside lane of a 3+ lane motorway?

Well I have witnessed, on numerous occasions, lorries using the outside lane of 3+ lane motorways and I have also witnessed lorries using the outside lane of 2 lane motorways and major A roads (despite highly visible signs stating that nothing over 7.5 ton should be in the outside lane).

Please don't tell me lorry drivers have restrictions when clearly they blatantly disregard them and just do what they want because 'they are bigger than anyone else'.

Seems to me the the menace on our roads are intollerant car drivers like you, talking out of your Jacksie again, dont forget "pacbuddie no mates" if it aint gas, water or electricity, it came to you via the back of a lorry. and just for closers, how about showing a little compassion for the two poor people in the van, a tragedy for them and their familys, how many children and grandchildren did they leave behind,
now you can ask the difficult questions, just how fast was the van travelling to have run into the back of a truck in heavy morning traffic, and cause such a terrible accident.
Ps. I am not a menace on the road, and I have been truckin now since 1976.

Yet again we have a Lorry killing again in less than 1 Week! We need to get more movements by Rail and Canal ASAP and Ban Lorries more than 7.5 Tones during the hours of 6AM and 8PM on all of our roads!

You could also say we have a van killing so ban all vans between those hours? Sometime this week we will have a death involving two cars, are you going to ban all cars as well?

Agreed. why do people instantly blame the lorry driver, it happened with the coach crash not that long ago....... Lorry driver was innocent in that one.......
