Meredith Kercher's Father John Urges Killer To 'Come Clean'

PA  |  Posted: 29/04/2012 06:49 Updated: 29/04/2012 07:56   PA

Meredith Kercher's father has appealed to her murderer to finally "come clean" and reveal what really happened the night she was stabbed to death.

Rudy Guede is the only person who remains behind bars in Italy for sexually assaulting and killing the British student and has "nothing to lose" from telling the truth now, John Kercher argued.

Amanda Knox, from Seattle, US, and her Italian ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito walked free from prison in Perugia last October when their convictions for the murder were dramatically overturned.

And the Kercher family has been left feeling ignorant of the exact circumstances in which 21-year-old Meredith died in the Umbrian town on November 1 2007.

Mr Kercher, 69, from Croydon, south London, believes there "had to be" more than one killer involved - and does not seem to think the evidence points to a "random" culprit.

"They say Meredith was killed in front of her wardrobe in her room and then the body was moved across the floor and covered with a duvet," he said.

"Why would you do that if you're just a random killer?"

Yet there is little scope for the murder inquiry to be reopened and a hunt for other suspects launched, he acknowledged.

"I don't see how the investigation can be reopened if there is no other evidence, but what I would like to see is Rudy Guede coming clean and saying something," he said.

"If he was there then why doesn't he tell the truth?"

Guede, a small-time drug dealer from the Ivory Coast, has always admitted being present at Miss Kercher's cottage on the night of the murder but denies involvement.

Prosecutors claimed he collaborated with Knox and Sollecito in the killing but that version of events was rejected by the appeal court.

Meanwhile, in the four years between the murder and acquittals, Knox was turned into "some kind of celebrity" while Miss Kercher was all but eclipsed, her father said.

In his new book, Meredith: Our Daughter's Murder and the Heartbreaking Quest for the Truth, Mr Kercher turns the spotlight back on to his daughter.

Speaking just after it hit the shelves, he said: "People wanted me to write this book because they say 'we know everything about Knox but nothing about Meredith'.

"You can understand that obviously Meredith is dead while Knox, Sollecito and Guede are alive so the focus is on the people who are still part of the scenario and I think that's where the fault lay."

But he insisted he had never been "vindictive" and only wanted to present the facts in his book.

"It's up to people to read those facts and make up their own mind," he added.

Asked whether he had sympathised with Knox's parents, who made repeated high-profile bids to persuade the world of their daughter's innocence, he said: "I can understand they were fighting for their daughter's freedom but it wasn't palatable."

The Italian people, however, were 100% behind Miss Kercher, he believes.

"I don't think you would see a thing like that in Britain," he said. "I think it's because in Italy they're so family-oriented. And they know Meredith is dead so the weight of sympathy was behind her."

And although Perugia's appeal court quashed the convictions of two of the three young people originally found guilty of the murder, Mr Kercher maintained the Italian justice system was "one of the fairest".

He added: "You have to accept what happens."

The semi-naked body of Miss Kercher, a Leeds University exchange student from Coulsdon in Surrey, was found on November 2nd 2007, in her bedroom at the Perugia house she shared with Knox and others.

Her throat had been slit and her door left locked.

Knox, also a student at the time, was sentenced to 26 years' imprisonment and Sollecito to 25, but both strenuously protested their innocence from behind bars and were ultimately cleared.

Prosecutors are appealing against the acquittals to Italy's Supreme Court, with a decision expected in the autumn.

Guede was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the killing but had his jail term slashed to 16 years on appeal.

It's unfortunate the Mr.Kercher keeps mentioning Knox. If people stop mentioning her she will be out of the news.

Apparently, vinno has had his account removed by HuffPo. Let me state right up front that vinno and I do not see eye to eye about the guilt or innocence of Amanda Knox. We sparred regularly on boards where the discussion had anything to do with Amanda.

However, let me publicly state that I find no reason for his removal from posting! This is HuffPo censorship that has simply gone too far! In a word, OUTRAGEOUS!

HuffPo censorium, I hope you are proud of yourselves!

BTW, I intend to send this post directly to community-support@huffingtonpost.com and to also submit this through the link at

@mz, you can go on and on about what happen in the run up to the Murder, but you cannot nore Vinno, nor any of guilter people answer the main questio which has been put to yourself.
So I will ask it again.
Are you ready?
The question is this, why was there no DNA of Amanda and Raff in the room where Meredith was murder?

"The question is this, why was there no DNA of Amanda and Raff in the room where Meredith was murder? "

You forgot the other question which is, why was there no DNA of Guede in the break in room or the bathroom?

Apart form that it was great well done!

@Vinno,
Very good question, but the main factor is you have not answer the question that has been set and posted so many times before, why was there no DNA of amanda and Raff in the murder room.
I do not care if there was no DNA of Guede in the break in room or the bathroom, maybe he cleaned it up and ran out of magic before he got to come to Meredith room.
Now will you answer the question? Or not

>You forgot the other question which is, why was there no DNA of Guede in the break in room or the bathroom?<

No violent struggle with the victim took place in the bathroom or in Filomena's room. All indications in those rooms are that it was a "quick in, quick out" scenario. Things of value, such as Filomena's laptop, were not taken nor was the room in great disarray indicating a search through it. The up close, hands on violence took place in the bedroom where his DNA WAS found. If Knox and Sollecito had taken part in holding a struggling Meredith down with such force as to leave bruises, as Mignini claims, they would have left their DNA and been IN the pool of blood by Meredith's head and shoulders. They could hardly have avoided it if they had been holding her down. They would have gotten blood on them somehow and left something behind just as Guede did. They didn't.

It's undisputed, even by C&V, that Sollecito's DNA was on Meredith's bra clasp. Sollecito's DNA expert found Knox's DNA on it too, and ended up walking off the case because he refused to testify to a script.

“Forensic expert Vincenzo Pascali quit in May, leaving a big hole in the Sollecito team—and a 50,000-euro bill for services rendered. He had been hired to discredit the bra-clasp evidence. But when he started hinting that in his own findings, the sample also contained Knox’s DNA, Bongiorno objected. Introducing Amanda’s DNA on the specimen would only make things worse, tying both defendants to the crime scene. Instead, she wanted Pascali to focus on contamination, even though it was unlikely that the clasp could have been contaminated with Raffaele’s DNA just because it wasn’t collected in a timely manner. Unwilling to testify according to the lawyers’ script, Pascali walked off the case.”

Nadeau, Follain, TJMK, PMF.org/.net, these are the sources for everything you bring to the table in these Knox discussions, how do you expect anyone in these discussions to take you anywhere close to serious?
11:57 PM on 05/09/2012
mzbecc, if the evidence was not presented in court then it isn't evidence. Yes, Sollecito's DNA was found on the metal clasp. No, Knox DNA was not found on the bra. THIS is the evidence presented in court so this is what matters.

Now, as to Sollecito's DNA; it was a few cells, so small that only LCN profiling could detect it. It came off a sample recovered 46 days after the initial investigation of the scene (despite being in clear view), handled by multiple forensic collectors using gloves that were not changed before collecting the specimen. The hook was tested in a lab not certified for LCN testing. The tests revealed peaks consistent with Sollecito, but also found peaks not consistent with Sollecito's profile, but definitely male. The non-Sollecito peaks were stronger than the Kercher peaks found on the knife. They were not in a stutter position, greater than 50 RFU and should have been reported by Stefanoni, but were not (why?). The test was not repeated as it should have been and no positive or negative controls were done. The hook rusted (due to improper storage) and is now considered useless.

Add to this folly of a DNA analysis is the fact that Sollecito, amongst this violent and bloody attack, left no other traces of himself. No other DNA, no prints, no fiber, no nothing. Knox left even less evidence of her presence in the room. What a joke.

"Why would you do that if you're just a random killer?"<

Guede was not a "random killer". He knew Meredith and he was a casual friend of Meredith's boyfriend and had been in his house on more than one occasion.

This was an Italian cultural misconception by the police that only a woman would cover her victim. Covering a victim is a sign of remorse, not an exclusively female emotion.
I posted an example of a man covering his unknown victim with a sheet in another thread.

Why the hell would Guede do that frankly?
Things are about as good as they could be for him, other than that he hadn't done it in the first place or not been caught for it, anything else he says just runs the risk of making his situation worse.

Mr. Kercher: You've done a wonderful job with your book, "Meredith". You have allowed the world a glimpse at the beautiful, talented daughter who was so brutally, senselessly taken from your family and the world at large. Compounding your tragic loss, you and your family have suffered needlessly from all of the baseless comments and articles posted questionning your sincerity and motives in publishing a book about your loss and the ensuing trials. You have handled all of this with dignity and good grace. You, more than anyone, have the right, no the responsibility to seek the truth, and to seek justice for Meredith. Keep the faith, Mr. Kercher, and know that we support you.

RIP Meredith

You really ought to see the video reconstruction of the murder of Meredith Kercher. All the groupie lies about how small the room was for 3 attackers, clearly disproven. And that the swarming attack there is so clearly mirrored by the groupies attack on Mr. Kercher here shows that perhaps, their identification with Knox and Sollecito has deeper reasons than they might want to admit.

You said TJMK has it, despite the efforts of the prosecution to prevent it's leaking to the press. Have you seen it?

Does anyone truly believe that the "Prosecution made efforts to Prevent the Leaking" to the press of this little Mignini Comodi fantasy cartoon...

The two (Mignini and Comodi) are actually being investigated by the "Corte dei Conti of Umbria", as I type, they are not happy about the $250,000.00 they spent on their little cartoon fantasy that no one concerned with the trial and appeal ever saw... Wonder what else they will find when they start their investigation into the case against Sollecito and Knox... That will be interesting...

Do you have any idea how they think Judge Hellmann broke with "Court Procedure"?

Cause all the rest doesn't matter anymore, this is all that the Court Of Cassation can rule on...

Any idea?

I can only surmise, given that all the sources you bring in your circular accusation logic points from have been majorly debunked, called out, proved to be wrong, all this, over and over again (in most cases repeated endlessly) that you "do not" want to be taken seriously by anyone... Seems pretty simple no?

It might have escaped you, but he is addressing his request to "come clean" to the ones that got away with it, and not the one who was sentenced and is paying for his crime.

And who are the ones that got away with it, as you know please tell all, with real facts.

Actually, no. I've read the book and he explicitly asks Guede to come clean and tell the truth.

Mr. Kercher, why did your lawyer neglect to ask Guede ANY questions when he was brought to court on 6.27.2011?

Your lawyer not only didn't try to make him speak or "come clean" but was also opposing such attempts of the defence.

Mr. Kercher, were you informed about your lawyer's actions? Do you endorse them?

All he wants is closure, and your sniping at him for errors of omission that exist only in your own head betrays your own lack of dignity, not his.
