Amazing 'Atlas Of True Names' Is Our New Favourite Thing (PICS)

Behold a thing of beauty and wonder that may just teach you a thing or two (hundred): the Atlas of True Names.

The atlas does what it says on the tin: marking the cities, countries, rivers, oceans and mountain ranges of the world not with their usual names but with their etymological meanings.

And so Cuba becomes 'Place To Find Gold', the Sahara is marked as 'The Tawny One', and Northumbria is the 'Great Land Of The Tattooed' (well, some things never change). London, meanwhile, is the 'Unfordable River Town' - as opposed to the unaffordable river town it is today.

Take a look at some of the highlights below - we recommend going full-screen! - and if you want your very own hard copy (or 'map', as it's also known), you can order them here.
