Londoners are already contemplating using the Tube during the Olympics with the all the trepidation of gymnast attempting a quadruple backwards summersault, but Tracey Emin wants to do her bit to calm us down when the times comes.

The once-controversial artist has designed a new cover for the famous tube map, explaining on TFL's website: "When people look at the Tube map I want them to smile and feel reassured."

18 million pocket maps bearing her design, which depicts a chirping bird sitting on a 'branch' of the Northern Line, will be thrust into the hands of confused visitors when the games kick off in June.

She's the 16th artist to be featured on the maps, following artists such as Michael Landy, Yayoi Kusama, Jeremy Deller and David Shrigley.

Tamsin Dillon, Head of Art on the Underground says: "We are excited and privileged to be working with Tracey Emin on this new work to mark the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"The artwork presents a moving and unique interpretation of the Capital. I am looking forward to hearing what our customers think about this new work and the others in the series via our website."

I actually admire Tracey Emin, not for her so called "art" but her ability to make rich people part with huge sums of money for absolute garbage. It's not art but certainly a talent.

'' The artwork represents a unique and moving interpretation of the Capital. ''
I can't believe anyone in their right mind would believe that to be so.
It's nothing but a scrawl and scribble of a few branches, some stops and a bird.

If it's supposed to be a branch of the Northern Line why is it signed The Central Line? The tourists will be delighted ending up in Peckham or wherever. They will be really thrilled after waiting 3 hours at Heathrow, and possibly ending up at The Elephant and Castle via Margate! What a load of CxxP.

Nice to know that the Underground has Head of Art. I only wish they had a Head of Punctuality, Cleanliness and Reliability as well.

Q. How can London Underground save a lot of money?
A. Get a 5 year old to do their artwork and give them a lollipop and sack everyone involved in this decision.

Q. How can Thanet District Council save a lot of money?
A. Put a Tracy Emin exihibition on at the Turner centre, burn the place down and claim on the insurance.

Just about sums up our luvvie dominated ruling elite. Choose the artist, pay them a fortune and get something that a 6year old or a chimpanzee could have drawn for nothing. No wonder our beloved little country is always in such a mess.

Illegible, amateurish scribble. Not worth the paper it's drawn on.

Tracey Emin... thank you for another masterpiece we all live in the shadow or your enormous talent.

This woman has made enough money from her so called works of art so why not spread the wealth and give the work to a lesser known talent. Why do we continue to make the rich richer?

Turner, Constable, Beardsley, Blake, Mackintosh, Spencer, Lowry - all of these will be celebrated and revered long after this silly woman is consigned to the dustbin of the forgotten... hang on though Saatchi has some of her rubbish - that means it must be valuable and if its valuable it must be good art - and if its good art her proud name will liveth for evermore bacause Saatchi decided it was good art worth buying - she said she would never sell to Saatchi because he maketh Mrs T - well what happened to that principle Trace? you silly little sellout...

Stupid wast of money from a provider who fails again and again to deliver, yet hikes prices to unbelievable levels.
