Man Jailed For Life After Murdering Girlfriend While Their Children Played In The House

A man has been jailed for life after stabbing a mother-of-six to death while her children played in another room.

Jordan Quailey, 30, killed his girlfriend Christine Peters after an argument at their home on 29 April 2011.

Miss Peters died from a knife wound to the chest.

Eight children were in the couple's home in Bedford during the attack, Miss Peters' six children and two children of friends of the couple.

After murdering Miss Peters, Quailey, who was the father of four of her children, spent the night with another woman.

He will serve a minimum of 16 years behind bars after being convicted at Luton Crown Court.

In a statement released to the media after the guilty verdict, Miss Peters' family said the year since her death had been "harrowing."

“The last year has been a harrowing and devastating time for our family. Chrissy’s untimely and unnecessary death has impacted on so many people's lives. She was a dear daughter, sister, aunt, good friend and more importantly a wonderful mother.

Officer Det Con Neal Hastings, of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit, said Quailey was "a coward and a violent man with a previous conviction for possessing weapons and for assaulting Christine."
