Colin Jones Accused Of Forcing Monarch Flight To Diverted After Burning Passenger's Hair

Flight Diverted After Man 'Burns' Fellow Passenger's Hair

A man has been accused of endangering an aircraft after a flight was forced to divert when another passenger had their hair singed, police said.

Smoke filtered around the cabin of the Monarch Airlines flight from Manchester to Palma, Majorca, after Colin Jones, 24, allegedly burned the hair of another passenger he was travelling with.

The plane was forced to divert to Gatwick Airport where Sussex Police officers boarded the aircraft just after 9am on Thursday and arrested Jones on suspicion of endangering an aircraft.

Jones, of Mottershead Road, Widnes, Cheshire, has been charged with "reckless or negligent behaviour likely to endanger an aircraft and other people in the aircraft", police said.

He has been freed on bail and will appear before magistrates in Haywards Heath, West Sussex, on 15 June.
