France V England Euro 2012: Here's When The Three Lions Last Beat Les Bleus... In 1997 (VIDEO)

WATCH: When England Last Beat France... In 1997

England face Laurent Blanc's French side tonight with the knowledge that France have not lost in 21 internationals. As if that was bad enough, there is also the Three Lions' wretched record against Les Bleus.

You have to go all the way back to 1997 when Glenn Hoddle's England beat Aime Jacquet's side at Le Tournoi in what was a precursor to the following year's World Cup in France.

A four-team tournament which also consisted of Italy and Brazil, it was where Roberto Carlos struck that extraordinary free-kick in the opening fixture at the Stade de Gerland to create the myth he was dangerous at set-pieces. He would not score another free-kick for the Seleção until the 2002 World Cup against China.

England had already beaten the Azzurri, with a 22-year-old Paul Scholes sparkling in Nantes, before Alan Shearer capitalised on a Fabien Barthez error five minutes from time in Montpellier to win England some rare-as-gold-dust "silverware".

Five times the nations have faced since, with France winning four and England yielding a draw just once.
