Bomb disposal vans, police cars and fire engines squealed across the M6 Toll road on Thursday after reports of a passenger pouring smoking liquid into a bag aboard a megabus.

Aerial shots of the motorway abandoned save for emergency services vehicles guarding all possible exits and entrances painted a dramatic picture.

Passengers were seen lined up behind a police cordon, with armed officers surrounding the scene. Sniffer dogs, and decontamination tents could be seen behind the toll gates.

Although Staffordshire police have announced there was no danger to passengers or other travellers on the motorway, the pictures below show the extent of the response to the incident this morning.
